Cambridge Schola is the first Cambridge University-wide choir with real ambition and potential. Drawing on the finest singing talents from across the University and City, we aim to deliver powerful performances and deep and affecting musicianship to audiences across the globe.
In 1828, Cambridge University Boat Club was founded: today, Cambridge draws many of the world's finest rowers to the city to take part in our remarkable rowing tradition. Cambridge Schola seeks to emulate that experience, drawing on the University's reputation for choral excellence to develop a world-class choir.
Our ambition is simple: we aim to build a choir with international prestige, selecting the finest singers from across Cambridge University, and instilling in them a professional ethos of unstinting excellence, so that we can truly represent the very best of Cambridge's extraordinary choral tradition.
However, this challenge requires resources. Schola Cantorum needs around £80,000 a year to keep running its current programme of activities, but receives no funding from the University or Colleges. We are reliant on the generosity of supporters for our day-to-day existence. Our benefactors provide the means for our students to rehearse and perform, as well as for sheet music, robes, singing lessons and other opportunities.
Cambridge Schola is passionate about breaking down barriers, both real and perceived, to choral music. This drive includes both our development of performances in non-traditional spaces (including the Market Square and museums & community spaces) and our ambitious Sing with Schola scheme.
Giving to the choir not only allows us to continue our work bringing beautiful and inspiring choral music to our members, audiences and congregations, but also enables you to be part of our family. You can enjoy benefits including personalized Happy Birthday videos, dinners with the choir and Director, invitation to attend rehearsals, and much more.
Options are available for endowing certain aspects of the choir's activities (e.g. the Director's post, individual studentships, commissions etc). For more information or to discuss this further, please contact us.
